    Hello Everyone, Im mcstyle24.
Im Italian and my English may be bad:ton:

Im a nutty fan of Tomb Raiders since i first start play playing Tomb Raider2 at aged 7:D and now im 20 Years old:(

Hehe the best part is bored my girlfriend to death by playingTomb raider so man hours on end:tea:

Okay lets get back to topic

welcome to my little office, we here to solve this unknown Crime.

Last week i bought another Tomb Raider 1 for grey big fat Playstation (because i felt like it)

Okay here the picture of Two (PAL) Tomb raider disc

What i notice and got me really intrested

Disc on the right, that's the regular Tomb raider disc(which most people have including me) with picture of Lara Croft in green and ID is SLES-00024.

    and

Disc on the left, Same... BUT!!! The disc has shiny surface in green with Lara croft on it. And ID is SLES-00024/CP and it bit heavier than disc on the right. I have nevers seen 00024 with(CP) on the end. i always has seen 00024.

I have always played Tomb Raider (SLES00024) disc on the right and i had that disc for almost 16 years. The sound, graphic and speed alway has been same since 1996.

So i insert Tomb raider disc (SLES00024/CP) disc the left, i start play it and i see the major different. The graphics is alot shaper and colourfull almost high resolution and the sound is very clear. Lara croft can run bit faster like Tomb Raider 2. But it has some glitch and some slowdown during game which 00024 don't have. And there no bug on the very last mission when you collecting the last secrets. it register 3 of out 3 in stats. (SLES00024) has that bug which only register 2 of out 3 in stats.

Wow i never knew that exist, after all those years. SLES00024/CP disc came with Double case for Tomb raider (which i havn't seen before) and it print in year 1996 aswell.

Did you guys already knew about that? I din't know that until now.

Bear in mind, (SLES00024) and (SLES00024/CP) been played on same grey big fat playstation console.

Also SLES00024 works perfect on PS3 while SLES00024/CP does'nt work on PS3 at all.

If you have Original Tomb raider disc, please check it out the ID

    UPDATE... I add more Picture

This is Close view for SLES00024/CP disc. I havn't got a clue why it says DO NOT USE THIS DISC. It's already there when i bought it.

I don't how to setup PS1 emulator Epsxe, i spent two hours to trying figure out (If someone willing to help to set up). So i gave up and use the camra instead
Here the picture, but i bit dissapointed because my camra can't adjust to show how quality this SLES00024/CP version is.

This version is SLES00024/CP, the graphic is very clear and nice colours there asboutly no jagging area with almost high res. while SLES00024 does has jagging area with normal graphic. But again like i said my camra can't asjust to tell.

This SLES00024/CP version is this picture, you can see lara croft has no jagging line around her body. SLES00024 version does has jagging line around her body. Also SLES00024/CP version background walls is very clear and cleaner detail than SLES00024 version .

I know it not a great picture but that the best i could do. All i know is SLES00024/CP is original release. It not re-release version

SLES00024/CP is a big mystery, i search every where on internet and no information about SLES00024/CP Tomb raider disc. All i see most gamers have SLES00024 version. Mabey SLES00024/CP version that CORE Design have plan to release but got delay and never release ? Or only few may got into retail shop before it got delay. i guess SLES00024/CP version is extremely rare to find.

I wish i could contact Core.

If you know, Please write the comment

  • That's indeed weird. So far I've not heard of another version of Tomb Raider 1 for PlayStation. For reference, the Platinum Edition I own is also a simple "SLES00024".

From what I can see I think this other version on PS1 looks even better than the regular 00024 one on the PS3. Which it normally should not...

All I can say: Good catch! :thumbsup

  • (It seems Grates TR has asked that question in some other forums as well. For those who are interested, the tombraiderforum's thread looks promising.)

I myself find it very interesting that there could be a different, maybe later version of the first game. I would really like to see it in real life! ;-)

When you say the CP-Version of the game does not run on your PS3: What PS3 do you own? The first European version with a 60GB hard disk or one of the later models? As far as I can tell the PS1 emulator inside the PS3 has to be fine tuned for each game. Can you start the game at all and does it crash then or does the PS3 not start the disk at all?
