A new video has been posted on a foreign gaming site showing the first ten minutes of Tomb Raider Underworld - beginning at the Croft Manor prologue level and ending at the beginning of the Kraken encounter. A summary of the video is as follows.
Lara is heading down a flight of stairs in what seems to be catacombs in a part of her manor. An explosion goes off in front of her and another behind her not a moment later, knocking rubble and pillars down. "My God!", she says, a look of fear on her face. Making her way through her burning manor, she finds Winston and Zip trying to escape via the main doors, but they seem to be blocked. Zip sees Lara and fires at her. "Get down!", he yells to Winston. He tries to stop Zip, saying "Wait, it's Lara!", but Zip says "I know!" and fires at her again. Lara dives out of the way and yells, "Zip, wait!". He won't hear of it. Firing again at the camera, the screen turns white and the words in silver read 'Eidos Interactive and Crystal Dynamics present...Tomb Raider Underworld'.
The next scene shows Lara's yacht on the Mediterranean Sea, the words 'One Week Earlier' float along screen. Lara's gazing ahead into the fog and squints mysteriously before heading downstairs into the cabin of the yacht. She presses a button on her laptop and Zip is sitting in front of the computer in Croft Manor. Lara, Zip, and Alister talk. Throughout all this, Lara is getting her gear ready - loading her pistols and making sure her scuba gear is intact.
Zip: Hey Lara. Find it yet?
Lara: Patience, Zip. I warned you that conveniently undiscovered islands would be scarce in the Mediterranean.
Alister: Are you sure this Eddington chap knows what he's talking about?
Lara looks at a picture of her father with Professor Eddington (mentioned at the end of Legend).
Lara: If he says Father was convinced the path to Avalon was here, I have no reason to doubt it.
Alister: Fair enough, but it's...wait, well...we've been talking about it and-
Zip: (interrupts) You've been talking, man. Leave me out of it!
Zip gets up and heads to the back of the Tech Room as Alister sits in front of the screen.
Alister: It's just...all right, maybe Avalon is real, but just because some mad woman tells you your mother didn't die after all...I mean, look...I, I don't want to seem heartless, but this, this idea of your mum living in some Celtic underworld...it's a, it's a bit mental, isn't it?
Lara: I have no illusions that my mother is holding court in some mythical paradise, Alister. I only want the truth, whatever it may be. I'll ring you later.
Lara disconnects the video chat and heads to the stern of her yacht. The beginning of the Mediterranean level is called The Path to Avalon, giving proof that there will be levels within the levels, making the game longer than it seems. Diving into the water, the gameplay is looking much more polished - Lara doesn't swim quite so fast anymore, now at a reasonable speed. She fights some sharks and makes her way to the underground temple. Walking toward an opening, a giant tentacle crashes through the floor, but her quick thinking sent her in a backward leap to safe ground. End of video.
From a previous video, the scene can be put together to continue it.
Breathing heavily, she looks downward and removes her camera, recording her sights. A Kraken sit at the bottom of the temple, blocking her entrance. "Well, isn't that lovely", Lara comments.
The video can be found here.
Also, if you have fantastic vision like I'm surprisingly fortunate enough to have, you can read the text at the loading screen in the beginning of the video. It reads:
Previously on Tomb Raider: A compilation video showing key scenes from previous games can be found in the Main Menu. Select EXTRAS, and then select TRAILERS AND CREDITS, and then choose 'Previously...'.
Interesting indeed!
