Mexican Treasure

  • This is my first story. Lara travels to Mexico for her next adventure. If you have any comments they are very welcome.

[ffdesc]Lara travels to Mexico to help an old friend with his excavation. Her good friend Sally, who was desperately in need of some time off, accompanies her. BTW: Sally will also make her appearance in my latest story, [story=1407]Tempting Darkness[/story].[/ffdesc]

    [ffcat]Action/Adventure[/ffcat]

  • [ffstory]Lara was in bed dreaming when the phone rang. She woke and raised her head to look at the clock on the wall. It was eight in the morning. Who was calling her at eight in the morning. In her mind the picture of the guy from the evening before appeared. She hoped it wasn't him.

She had been out with her friend Sally. They had been to a private club, that's where you go when all the pubs close. Sally got an invitation from a colleague but she didn't want to go alone so she had urged Lara to go with her. Sally and Lara were friends from school. When Sally decided to become a lawyer their ways parted. But they always stayed in touch. You never knew when a lawyer might come in handy. At this club Lara met a guy who thought she was the love of his live. She proved him wrong. Nevertheless she had fun which was very seldom lately.

The phone rang again. As always Winston was already up for a couple of hours but he was nowhere near the phone. Lara yawned. Somewhere under the bed she had hidden a pair of pistols in their case. She thought about just grabbing them and setting an end to this horrible phone. The ringing stopped. Lara sighed and threw the phone a glance.

"Finally, you knew this was your last chance, didn't you."

Lara leaned back and closed her eyes. It was just a couple of minutes till the ringing started again. Lara groaned and pulled the pillow over her head. The ringing stopped.

    "No way, this never works."

Lara removed the pillow. Then she heard Winston calling her.

    "Miss Croft, it's the phone."

"Oh, really?" she said to herself.

    "Miss Croooft!"

He entered with the phone in his hand. He told Lara that Stephane was on the other end. Stephane and Lara got to know each other at Oxford University where they both studied archaeology. Stephane, being French, intended to stay there for one year but after meeting Lara he stayed longer. Stephane taught Lara how to shoot weapons and she introduced him to rock climbing. After they went separate ways in their lives they still talked to each other regularly.

Winston handed her the phone. Stephane sounded very far away. Lara assumed he was in Peru, as it's his favourite holiday spot. So she was surprised to find out he was in Mexico leading a project to find out the mystery about Chichén Itzá. In Chichén Itzá are the most impressive and intact ruins of Mayan civilisation. For some reason the Mayas deserted the city. Stephane informed her of an inscription they had found lately which indicated that some mysterious power took hold of Chichén Itzá and forced the inhabitants to flee.

"I think we might be on to something very interesting." Stephane said.

"That sounds like you are having fun, while I'm sitting in England. It's so cold and boring around here." said Lara

"Then come over here, we could need a hand."

"I would, but I promised Sally to spend some time with her, we were planning to go to Wales. She got some time off and she really deserves it after getting divorced. She needs me, Stephane."

"Lara, I need you too. Why don't you bring Sally with you. The weather here is much better than in Wales. After all it's February."

"You are absolutely right. It has been raining a lot. I could do with some good weather and so could Sally. But she is not an adventurer."

"She is a lawyer, that's close enough."

"You know what, I'll ask her and call you later."

Lara hung up and went into the bathroom.

At about 11 Lara called Sally and told her the news. Sally immediately agreed to go to Mexico instead of Wales.

"I finally get to meet the famous Stephane?!" she said.

"So that's a 'yes', ok, I will tell Stephane and book the tickets. I will call you later. Start packing your things. Bring a sleeping bag and leave the high heels at home."

    Sally laughed and hung up.

Lara called Stephane again and told him to get a room.

"I already have", he responded "I know you can be very convincing, Lara. And I know you want to come here. Your plane goes at 9.30 tomorrow morning."

    "Stephane!"

    "No need to thank me."

    "You are amazing..."

"I know, that's why you love me."

Lara could hear him grin. She was speechless.

"So I'll see you on Sunday." he added. "From Mexico City you have to take the car. I'll book one for you."

He hung up before Lara could respond.[/ffstory]

  • But I am still a bit unsure if Lara would be able to get her weapons over to Mexico. I mean at least they must be locked away but would they give them back to her, in Mexico?

Write me what you think. I mean I could change that bit and then she would be without guns.

  • Hi, just read your story and liked where it was going. About the weapons, I think it would be kind of hard to get weapons on and off the planes so you might think about having Stephane take her to a weapons dealer he knows. The possibilities for story development in that one little twist alone could give your story depth later on. Maybe Lara finds out she can't keep her weapons and Stephane, knowing how important it is to Lara to be armed, hookes her up. I hope I've helped.

  • Well I've thought about that for a while. But the way my story goes Lara might need some guns very soon. Before she even meets Stephane. Well it's Fiction anyway. So why not let her keep her guns?

  • Hey, it's all good! I like the idea of twisting reality to suit your story. It is yours so do what you need to do to let Lara do what she does. And I can't wait for more. It's like getting a book one chapter at a time. I hope you don't let us hang later on when things get really tence!
    Later...

  • I'll see what I can do, alas I'm far to busy with the rest of the site, walkthroughs especially to write on the story constantly. And then soon University will start again.

  • Hi again...I read the story, great. I totally know what you mean. Whenever I write a story it takes me months to finish it, if I ever do. Can't wait for more.
On a different subject, I was wondering how to put a pic on my name...can you help me?

  • You mean like here in the forum? Unfortunately you can't. The pictures come with your rank. There is currently no picture for newbie. I have downloaded a later version of the forum already, but so far I havn't had time to have a look at it.

  • The story is good. In realilty it would be difficult to go anywhere with firearms. In Egpyt she would probably get arrested just for wearing shorts (they didn't even like me walking down the streets in short sleeves!).

I suppose that if she had offical InterPol status that might be different, but it is a story and I would not worry too much.

Hmm...........some of the polymer bodied numbers taken apart might be able to be slipped by though..............

In the morning Winston brought Lara and Sally to Heathrow. And shortly afterwards they were sitting in a plane to Mexico City.

"So what have you been up to lately", Sally started the conversation.

She hadn't asked that question for a long time since she had been very busy with her ex husband.

"I have just finished a book about some ancient Greek ruins. Nothing interesting. Just boring archaeological stuff."

    "Why boring?"

"It wasn't what I'd like to write about. I had to cut down the action. You know like being chased by a rivalling group of explorers." Lara paused.

"Why did you have to leave that out?"

"That's not the stuff students have to learn. They are told that the most useful tool of an archaeologist is a brush. Well what about a decent pair of Magnums?"

"So next thing they need is a good lawyer?" Sally commented.

    Lara smiled.

"I mean don't they know that precious artefacts are always guarded, if not by the living at least by the dead? Of course they wouldn't know that, they have their knowledge from books. Boring ones like I've just written."

"And what else have you been up to", Sally continued. "You can't tell me that you have been writing all day and night."

"I've also been to some auctions lately. That got me a 'new' clock and some ancient chests and I also bought a new motorbike.

"That sounds more like you, Lara." Sally replied.

They continued talking for a while till they got their breakfast.

Shortly afterwards the movie started. Lara decided she didn't want to see it. So she turned on the radio. On Channel 3 - Top Twenties she was greeted by Sarah Connor - From Sarah with love. Again she felt this pressing urge to draw her weapons and she regretted they were locked away.

"I really want to shoot her and leave a message 'From Lara with Love' " she thought.

Sally tapped her on the shoulder. 'There is Janie's got a gun' on Channel 5, didn't you tell me this is one of your favourites?"

"Thank you, yes. Clever girl, this Janie, don't you think?" Lara replied.

"You know Lara, I am really excited. This is my first Adventure. Michael was one of those who booked a first class hotel with swimming pool, private beach and golf course. After two days I was bored to death. I kept on reading books and I wished I was in it."

"Books are nothing compared to the life out there, believe me."

"So what's our plan?" Sally asked.

"After we've arrived in Mexico City we will get the jeep from the car rental and then we have a long trip through the wilderness ahead. We have to spend at least one night in the car."

"And where do we meet Stephane?"

"He will be waiting for us at the hotel in Merida. It's a very nice hotel but they don't have a golf course." Lara said grinning.

She took out a map and showed Sally where they had to go. Sally seemed very interested. And Lara was sure she would come to Chichén Itzá with her.

Some hours later the plane landed in Mexico City. The two girls had changed their outfits in the plane and were now ready for any adventure that might come along.

  • Just to let you know: I've written some more but I'm not going to put it on the website right away. I thinks it's boring reading the story in little pieces. I'll write some more in the next couple of weeks and then I'll upload it if I think it's worth it.
