I guess you are at the wrong rope (wrong part?)
It is on the left side of the room. It is a horizontal rope. It should not be to hight up... Lara will jump easily past it and if you are positioned correctly (right underneath), and I think it doesn't matter where as long as it's somewhere under the rope, the rope should start to burn.

the walkthrough sais to run back to the room with the fountain... so i guess i'm in the right place. the rope hangs from wall to wall near the fountain. (horizontal as you said) I'm gonna check it again today

I'll try. I don't know where to put the globes, you know the one that has the letter of each dircations. I don't know where to put them. I tried your walkthrough put it doesn't explian it clearly, but that just my opion.
Maybe what's not clear to you is the use of your compass? Look at the inventory. The red needle is the one you will need. You have to look at the movable pieces, they have letters (N,E,S,W) The N table goes on the northern spot, the S table onto the southern....
But I have also described where each single table goes....
